I was really hoping to post this video as an homage to winter, a way to remember the good times from this season yet enjoy the beautiful spring weather. However as I awoke this morning and looked out the window, I noticed that winter had returned. Normally I wouldn’t be to happy about this but there is something strangely fitting to it. If I were you, I’d stay inside, bundle up into a blanket and watch this beautiful winter wedding.

Sarah and Andrew are a couple that just work. From being infants together in the nursery to having grandparents that were close friends, it seems as though they were destined to end up together. They are the sort of couple that when you first meet them you just know that thy are on to something good. I’d hate to make a peanut butter and jelly reference right now, but you know what I’m getting at.

Justin + Christina: Burgers, Books and Boats /justin-christina/ /justin-christina/#comments Wed, 26 Feb 2014 22:10:11 +0000 /?p=1578 Jesse and I have known Justin and Christina for a long time, so when they announced their engagement we happily agreed to shoot their wedding. They were stumped on ideas for locations we could go for their engagement photos and they got really excited when I made a few suggestions. We decided we would get lunch at The Burgers Priest first, after that we decided we would try to go the The Reference Library and take a few photos covertly. Then we decided we would go to Toronto Island to catch the sunset. We had a lot of fun running around the city with these two even though we missed our first ferry to the island and nearly missed our ferry to take us home! We are certainly excited to share some of their engagement photos here. We hope you love ‘em!

Katie + Chris: Joy for a pickup truck /katie-chris/ /katie-chris/#comments Thu, 13 Feb 2014 19:31:43 +0000 /?p=1438

Katie and Chris are a real joyful pair and it was apparent on their big day. We had the pleasure of shooting their engagements photos awhile back and they decided it would be fun to have an all-candy picnic (they didn’t forget candy for the wedding either). They were both well prepared for the day from the round of golf for the groomsmen to the boxes (and boxes) of chicken nuggets for the bridesmaids. Family and friends are very important to both Katie and Chris and there was a great deal of hugging, story-telling, and of course, laughing. We hope you enjoy the Film and the photos of Katie and Chris’ wedding!

Bonnie + Steven : From Saudi to Calgary /bonnie-steven/ /bonnie-steven/#comments Wed, 15 Jan 2014 02:29:05 +0000 /?p=1316

I remember shooting Bonnie and Steven’s engagement photos last spring. At one point on the shoot they were going to change outfits and Bonnie realized that she had forgotten her jeans at home. We decided to make a detour on the shoot and meet up with someone so that Bonnie could pick them up. While sitting in the car with Steve we got to talking about how Steve and Bonnie met. While I won’t spoil the story for you (I’ll let the film do that) I can tell you that while sitting in the car, hearing this story, I knew that we had teamed up with a really great couple.
Bonnie and Steven genuinely care about each other and it shows. They are living proof that long distance relationships can not only work but thrive. After having spent a significant amount of time living thousands of kilometers apart, both while dating and through engagement it really is exciting watching them come together in marriage.

Jenny + Varun /jenny-varun/ /jenny-varun/#comments Sat, 07 Dec 2013 14:38:24 +0000 /?p=1203 Often when there is a wedding that bring two people or two families from different traditions together there is compromise. Either one person’s traditions for marriage fall by the wayside, or else there is an attempt to blend the two while never fully honouring either of them.

What I loved about Jenny + Varun’s wedding is that they fully incorporated traditions from both sides. It wasn’t his or her wedding. It wasn’t even just their wedding. It was a marriage of culture and tradition, it was the coming together of both of their families.

Dan + Emily : An Eternity Shoot. /dan-emily/ /dan-emily/#comments Mon, 18 Nov 2013 19:19:29 +0000 /?p=1144 I mean maternity shoot, but this really is much more than that.

Dan + Emily’s wedding is one of the reasons that we are where we are today. Their’s was the second wedding that we ever shot together. Though it was many moons ago we still remember it well. It was where we first discovered that a wedding film really was more than just us capturing the day and setting it to music. It was where we discovered not only how to tell stories, but why we tell the stories in the first place. They give some family and friends an opportunity to relive memories, and others the opportunity to experience them for the first time. Needless to say that Dan + Emily hold a pretty significant place in Driftwood’s history.

I will be completely honest with you here, I have never seen a maternity shoot that I liked. I’m sure that there are some really great ones, I’ve just never seen any that I didn’t find cheesy. When it came to working with Dan + Emily again however, it was an obvious choice.

Pregnancy is about so much more than just a belly. Its about the time spent in anticipation and excitement. It’s about the couple partaking in a joy that is completely their own, yet extends far beyond them. I wanted this shoot to be at least as much about Dan + Emily’s interactions as it was about the fact that her shape has changed.

So without further ado, I give you Dan + Emily’s maternity photos.

Lauren + Kyle : Devil’s Punchbowl /lauren-kyle/ /lauren-kyle/#comments Wed, 13 Nov 2013 22:02:40 +0000 /?p=1041 One of our favourite things to do for engagements shoots is to head off exploring. From waterfront trails to city rooftops and anywhere in between. Not only is the experience fun as all get out, not only does it lead to some fantastic adventure candids, but it really gives us a chance to get to know the coupe in a way that sitting in a coffee shop never quite can. We get to bond over a shared experience that is new for everyone involved. If time weren’t an issue we’d probably head out on a canoe trip with each of our couples, but that just isn’t realistic!

Meet Lauren + Kyle; the couple who’s very strict engagement shoot requirements were as followed: outdoors and maybe a barn if that’s not too much to ask.

Needless to say this sounded like our kind of couple. Zach and I head out a few days early for some escarpment exploration and decided that it would be a great engagement shoot location, we even stumbled upon 2 great barns.

You’d probably be surprised to hear that Lauren and Kyle have been together just shy of 7 years and met working at a metro while in high school. If you don’t think that’s awesome, well that’s just too bad for you.

They are as kind and genuine as they come.

As a side note they were considering scalping some Dixie Chicks tickets after our shoot they didn’t end up doing it.

Enjoy!

Saghi + Noah: QR code lovin’! /saghi-noah-qr-code-lovin/ /saghi-noah-qr-code-lovin/#comments Fri, 04 Oct 2013 05:33:44 +0000 /?p=1033 Saghi + Noah were such a great couple to work for. They were incredibly caring and thoughtful making sure that we had everything that we needed all day long. The two of them really are a perfect pair and its easy to see their love bleed through their every interaction. I can remember so clearly on the day thinking just how cute they were and how unique of a couple they were.
On the morning of the wedding Saghi sent an incredibly thoughtful gift that was a reflection of Noah’s romantic proposal. From the blending of cultures and traditions in their beautiful and unique ceremony, to the non stop dancing that ran through the entirety of the reception, this wedding will certainly be one to remember.

Enjoy friends!

Devin + Jeff (and Randall the french bulldog): Engaged! /devin-jeff/ /devin-jeff/#comments Wed, 25 Sep 2013 19:03:07 +0000 /?p=1006 One of our favourite parts of shooting portraits at weddings or engagement sessions is watching the couple interact and trying to capture their dynamics on camera. This process is especially enjoyable when the couple has a french bulldog puppy thrown into the mix. Randall was in recovery from a sickness that he had almost since birth, which meant that he couldn’t be left home alone. Getting to spend the evening with Devin and Jeff really was a pleasure and we couldn’t be happier with the photos. We’re really excited to be a part of their wedding next summer and can’t wait to see a grown up Randall.
